The Hot Collector forum is a place where collectors can ask questions, share discoveries, discuss collectibles, and learn from one another. Please help us keep the community friendly, honest, useful, and welcoming.

By using the forum, you agree to follow these guidelines, our terms and conditions, and our privacy policy.

Respect Other Members

Treat every collector with respect, whether they are new to collecting or have decades of experience.

Disagreements are allowed, but personal attacks are not. Do not insult, threaten, bully, harass, shame, or deliberately provoke another member. Debate the information without attacking the person sharing it.

Hateful, discriminatory, sexually explicit, threatening, or excessively violent content is not allowed.

Keep Discussions Helpful and Relevant

Post topics in the most appropriate forum category and use clear, descriptive titles.

Do not repeatedly post the same question or reply with unrelated comments simply to promote yourself, increase activity, or disrupt a discussion.

Friendly conversation is welcome, but repeated off-topic posts may be moved or removed.

Identification and Appraisal Requests

When requesting help identifying or valuing an item, provide clear photographs and as much useful information as possible. Include measurements, markings, signatures, materials, condition issues, and known history when available.

Do not deliberately hide damage, repairs, reproductions, missing pieces, altered parts, or other important details.

Identification and value estimates shared by members are opinions. The Hot Collector does not guarantee an item’s identity, authenticity, age, condition, repairability, rarity, or value. Important decisions should be confirmed through additional research or a qualified professional.

Honest Information

Do not knowingly post false, deceptive, or misleading information.

When stating that an item is rare, authentic, historically important, or highly valuable, explain the evidence or source behind the claim. Clearly separate confirmed facts from personal opinions, guesses, family stories, and seller claims.

Members should politely correct inaccurate information and provide sources when possible.

Photographs and Copyrighted Content

Only upload photographs, writing, documents, or other materials that you created, own, or have permission to share.

Do not copy complete articles, auction descriptions, price guides, photographs, or other copyrighted material from another website without authorization. A short quotation or reference may be acceptable when accompanied by proper credit and a link to the original source.

Do not remove another creator’s watermark or claim ownership of material that is not yours.

Privacy and Personal Information

Do not publicly share your home address, financial information, passwords, private correspondence, identification documents, or other sensitive information.

Do not publish another person’s private information, photographs, messages, email address, telephone number, or location without permission.

Remember that public forum posts may appear in search engines and may be copied, shared, archived, or captured in screenshots.

Buying, Selling, and Trading

Do not post scams, counterfeit items, stolen property, unsafe offers, or misleading sale descriptions.

Clearly describe an item’s condition, damage, repairs, replaced parts, reproductions, and any uncertainty about authenticity. Do not pressure members into completing a transaction.

Unless a forum category clearly allows buying, selling, or trading, ask permission before posting commercial offers.

Transactions between members are made at their own risk. The Hot Collector does not verify members, inspect items, process payments, hold funds, guarantee transactions, or resolve payment and shipping disputes.

Spam and Advertising

Do not post repetitive advertisements, unrelated promotions, referral links, affiliate links, or unsolicited commercial messages.

Collectors may share relevant resources and businesses when they genuinely help answer a question. Members may not use the forum mainly to redirect visitors to another website, store, social-media page, or service.

Safe and Legal Content

Do not use the forum to promote fraud, theft, counterfeit goods, illegal transactions, dangerous activities, malware, phishing, or attempts to bypass website security.

Content involving the exploitation of minors or nonconsensual intimate images is strictly prohibited and may be reported to the proper authorities.

Members discussing weapons, alcohol, tobacco, or other regulated collectibles must keep discussions educational and comply with applicable laws.

Usernames and Accounts

Use one account unless an administrator gives you permission to create another.

Do not impersonate another collector, business, expert, moderator, or member of The Hot Collector staff. Do not create another account to avoid a warning, suspension, or ban.

You are responsible for keeping your password secure and for activity performed through your account.

Private Messages

Private messages may not be used for harassment, threats, spam, scams, unwanted advertising, or illegal transactions.

Although private messages are not publicly displayed, administrators may review them when reasonably necessary to investigate a report, protect members, prevent abuse, enforce the rules, or comply with legal obligations.

Report suspicious or abusive messages instead of continuing the argument.

Reporting Problems

Use the forum’s report feature to report suspicious posts, scams, harassment, copyright violations, or other rule-breaking behavior.

Do not start a public argument, organize attacks against another member, or repeatedly demand that moderators take a particular action.

You may also report a problem through our contact us page. Please include the username, topic, message, and any other details that will help us review the issue.

Reports are reviewed individually. Submitting a report does not guarantee that content will be removed.

Moderation

Administrators and moderators may edit, move, lock, hide, or remove content that violates these guidelines, our Terms, the law, or the intended purpose of the forum.

Depending on the situation, we may issue a warning, limit posting privileges, suspend an account, or permanently ban a member. Serious violations may result in immediate removal without a warning.

Moderation decisions are based on the available information and the needs of the community. Public arguments about moderation may be removed. Questions about a decision should be sent privately through our contact us page.

Changes to These Guidelines

These guidelines may be updated as the forum grows or new community features are added. The latest version will always appear on this page.

Continued use of the forum means that you agree to follow the current guidelines.
